The Problem Solver started on the front porch of Chris Wollard’s house in 2016. Chris and I were both fans of the classic 2204 circuit, but we also shared the same feeling: as great as those amps can be, there were things about the circuit we wanted to change.

What began as a conversation turned into years of experimenting with the design. We wanted to keep the aggression, punch, and immediacy that make those classic British amps so addictive, while giving the player more control over how the amplifier responds and feels.

As the circuit evolved, it became less about modifying an existing design and more about creating an amplifier with its own identity.

The four-position AGE control became a major part of that idea. Instead of locking the amp into a single voicing, it allows the character of the circuit to shift through different eras of British amplifier design. From brighter, more open vintage sounds to the tighter, heavier response associated with later high-gain amps.

The Mid Boost and Depth controls add another level of flexibility without getting in the way of the core sound. You can shape the low end, push the amp forward in a mix, or completely change its attitude while still retaining the dynamics and responsiveness of a simple single-channel tube amplifier.

The final result is the Problem Solver: a 50-watt amplifier that carries the DNA of the amps that inspired it, but isn't tied to any one era.
